How to Maintain Glowing Skin This Party Season

It wouldn't be party season without champagne cocktails and late nights, but it's no secret that the festive season can be tough on our skin. We're talking dark under-eyes, dull and dehydrated skin, and breakouts. If you have less-than-ideal skin, there are some things you can do to fix it (including not falling asleep with three layers of foundation on).

Use a Hydrating Serum

Throughout the party season, we might end up drinking more alcohol than we usually would. It's important to remember that drinking alcohol frequently can cause your skin to become dehydrated and inflamed. When our skin becomes dehydrated, it can cause fine lines and wrinkles to appear and therefore, you must take the right measures to keep your skin glowing and hydrated throughout the party season. Incorporating an ultra-hydrating serum, such as our best-selling B Serum, into your daily routine (and drinking more water) will help combat alcohol-induced skin dehydration. It also creates the perfect canvas for hydrated and glowing skin before makeup application!

Tip – drink two glasses of water for every one glass of alcohol.

Treat Yourself to a Face Mask

A brightening mask is another must-have for glowing skin and perfect for boosting your radiance or rejuvenating tired skin both before & after an event. Our Fruit Enzyme Mask is a 2 in 1, it brightens & exfoliates. Supercharged with proteolytic fruit enzymes and botanical extracts, these enzymes work to degrade the protein bonds of intercellular cohesion, instantly unveiling renewed, softer, and brighter skin.

Tip – During this time of year, exfoliate twice weekly, and the night before any event.

Concentrate in your Eyes

As the delicate under-eye area is one of the first signs of sleep deprivation, a hard-hitting eye cream needs to be in your skincare regime. Packed with cosmeceutical ingredients, you would usually expect to find dispersed throughout multiple products - our Vital Eye Cream is a vital step in your skincare regime this party season. It combines biomimetic peptides targeted to reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness, with light-reflecting particles, providing instant radiance and optically minimising fine lines and wrinkles.

Tip - Keep all eye products in the refrigerator to maximise the benefits.

Do Not Sleep With Your Makeup On!

We've all been there. You get home late, and the last —the last — thing you want to do is wash your face. But did you know, sleeping in makeup is one of the worst things you could do to your skin, next to baking in the sun? During deep sleep, there is a boost in healing hormones such as growth hormone and melatonin, resulting in more rapid rates of cellular regeneration and repair, and sleeping with makeup on may hinder these processes in many ways. Here are a few reasons why you should never sleep with your makeup on:

Collagen degradation & premature ageing

During the day, you accumulate a lot of oxidative stress. When you sleep in your makeup, you are not giving your skin a chance to recover from those insults, which can lead to premature ageing. Free radicals from the environment (often in the form of pollution) will remain on the skin when you don't cleanse properly at night, causing the breakdown of collagen and the development of fine lines.

Acne flare-ups

You've probably woken up to a breakout or two (or several) after falling asleep with a full face of makeup, and that's no coincidence. Prolonged wearing of makeup during sleep can also clog pores, resulting in breakouts and inflammation. Foundations and thick, oil-based primers are often the worst offenders. They prevent the skin from renewing itself naturally at night, causing blackheads, acne and dullness.

Get Plenty of Rest

Between parties, make sure you get plenty of sleep. Dullness, tiredness, puffy eyes and fine lines are all a result of sleep deprivation. Furthermore, a lack of sleep increases cortisol levels which is a skin-stressor.

Alongside getting sufficient sleep, the Beauty Chef Sleep Inner Beauty Powder is a delicious, multi-tasking night-time tonic that will be your saviour this party season. Designed to help you unwind and de-stress, this delicious blend supports the body's natural antioxidant activities that are increased during the sleep cycle to help protect against oxidative damage, which is closely associated with premature ageing.
