The skin is the body's largest organ and serves as a protective shield against heat, light, injury, and infection. So how do formulations bypass that skin barrier so that key actives can get to work? There are various transport vectors and mechanisms we use in our products. However, one of the most effective ways to overcome the skins barrier protective barrier is to use a home care derma roller.
How does derma rolling work?
Derma rolling involves the use of microscopic needles which makes microscopic punctures in the skin to enhance the delivery of skin products and helping key ingredients sink into the skin.
A derma Roller is not designed to cause bleeding and should definitely not cause any pain or discomfort. You should only ever use a safe needle depth at home, 0.25mm, and this is the depth of the Aesthetics Rx derma roller. Any lengths beyond that must be left to the professionals in a clinical environment since there are risks involved with those deeper levels, like hyperpigmentation.
What are the skincare benefits of using a derma roller?
Derma rolling provides a means of getting products through the skin barrier. It achieves this by aiding passage and allowing the active ingredients to absorb and reach their targeted areas! Thus, it enhances the overall efficacy of serums and moisturisers by up to 90%. You'll notice an improvement to skin issues like dullness, post acne scarring, pigmentation, open pores and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. That's because your skincare products are working harder for you, and where they are needed.
How to Use A Derma Roller:
- Rinse your derma roller under warm water, leave to dry, then spray all over with our 70% Isopropyl Sanitising Spray. Leave to dry to let the antiseptic action get to work and alcohol evaporate off the needles. In the meantime, thoroughly cleanse your face using Aesthetics Rx Revitalising Foaming Cleanser before using your derma roller.
- Apply the roller gently over the area to be treated. Using a cross-hatch shaped pattern (vertical than horizontal), roll each area approximately 5 times, and lift the roller between passes to avoid moving the same places too much. A simple method is to divide your face into 6 areas left and right forehead, left and right nose/eye/cheek/temple and left and right lower cheek/mouth/chin areas.
- Apply your serum and/or cream after rolling over your whole face.
- Rinse your derma roller and use Isopropyl Sanitising Spray before replacing your derma roller in the protective case supplied. That way it's ready for use straight away next time you roll.
