That environment has shaped the brand from the beginning. Rather than developing products to follow a retail trend, the focus has always been on creating cosmeceutical formulations that skin professionals can confidently recommend within a considered homecare routine.
It also means looking beyond a single concern or ingredient. Your skin may need barrier support before it’s ready for more active treatment. One formula may need to work alongside several others. Why does Aesthetics Rx® formulate for skin needs rather than skincare trends?

It’s a product development philosophy in which every formulation should offer more than a comparable version of what’s already available. It needs a clear reason to exist and a considered response to the skin’s biology, a particular life stage or a limitation within existing formulas.
This doesn’t mean adding more ingredients or making bigger promises. It’s about making deliberate formulation choices that offer a meaningful point of difference and fit the needs of your skin as it changes.

What is biotechnology in skincare and why does it matter?
Biotechnology has been central to the Aesthetics Rx® formulation approach since the brand began in 2014. It’s part of our identity because how an ingredient is made matters to us, both for the consistency it can bring to a formula and the resources required to produce it.
So, what does biotechnology actually mean in skincare?
Biotechnology uses living organisms or naturally derived biological materials, such as plant cells, microbes and yeasts, to produce specific ingredients under carefully controlled conditions. Fermentation is one of the most common methods. It allows scientists to cultivate cells and create ingredients that are identical or very similar to substances found in nature, including compounds naturally present within your skin.
Across the Aesthetics Rx® range, biotechnology is used to produce ingredients including fermentation-derived hyaluronic acid, fermented polysaccharides, yeast-derived ingredients and actives cultivated from microalgae and plant cells.
Ingredients harvested directly from nature can vary according to the season, climate, soil and growing conditions. Biotechnology gives formulators greater control over how an ingredient is produced, helping to maintain its quality, purity and consistency from one batch to the next. It can also make it possible to develop highly specialised ingredients for a particular purpose within a formula.
There’s an environmental consideration too. Producing ingredients through biotechnology can require less land, water and intensive harvesting than growing and extracting large quantities of plant material. It gives us another way to access valuable compounds while reducing pressure on limited natural resources.
But the use of a biotech-produced ingredient alone doesn’t automatically make a formulation advanced. What matters is why it was selected, the role it performs and how it works within the complete formula.

What makes a skincare formulation intelligent?
Once the right ingredients have been chosen, the next challenge is bringing them together in a formula that performs as intended.
Each active needs to be considered in the form and concentration most appropriate for its role. More of something isn’t automatically better. A higher concentration may not give your skin a better experience, particularly if it affects tolerance or makes the product difficult to use consistently. How does this formulation approach shape Aesthetics Rx® products?
To see how this thinking is reflected in our products, let’s look at three examples: Total Repair DNA Serum, our Biofemage® range and our newest product, Collagen Matrix Mask. Each was created in response to a different skin need, but all reflect the same deliberate approach to ingredients, technology and the complete formula.
Total Repair DNA Serum
When developing Total Repair DNA Serum, creating another retinol product wasn’t enough. Retinaldehyde or as it’s often shortened to, retinal was chosen because it sits one conversion step closer to retinoic acid than retinol, but it’s also more difficult to stabilise within a cosmetic formula.
Aesthetics Rx® Total Repair DNA Serum is formulated with encapsulated retinal, a form of Vitamin A that is distinct from retinol.
Encapsulation helps protect the retinal and support its delivery, while peptides, antioxidants, hydrators and barrier-supportive ingredients contribute to the performance and tolerability of the complete formula. It’s a good example of why the ingredient named on the front of the bottle is only part of what makes a product different.

Biofemage®
The Biofemage® range began with a different question: how can skincare better support the visible changes that often emerge during perimenopause and menopause?
Rather than focusing on one concern or relying on a single hero ingredient, the range combines marine biotechnology, peptides, phytoactive botanicals and barrier-supportive ingredients. The serum and cream each perform a distinct role while working together to support hydration, comfort, luminosity and more resilient-looking skin.
It reflects the Aesthetics Rx® belief that changing skin needs a considered formulation response, not simply more of the same.

Collagen Matrix Mask
The newest addition to the Aesthetics Rx® range, Collagen Matrix Mask brings that thinking into a two-part treatment ritual. A concentrated serum is used to activate a dissolvable marine collagen film, creating a fresh blend that can then be massaged over the skin and left on overnight.
This is Korean technology created exclusively for Aesthetics Rx®. A formulation that combines marine and plant-derived collagen, seven forms of hyaluronic acid, five targeted peptides and a blend of Korean botanicals. Together, they’re designed to leave the skin visibly plumper, smoother, more hydrated and radiant, while supporting comfort and barrier resilience with regular use.
It’s an innovative format with a clear purpose. Every part of the ritual is designed around how the ingredients come together and the experience they create for your skin.
How has Aesthetics Rx® packaging evolved?
We’re proud of what sits inside every Aesthetics Rx® product, and we wanted the packaging to reflect that. When the brand reached its tenth anniversary in 2024, it felt like the right time to create a more distinctive visual identity and reconsider every part of the experience, from how the products look on your shelf to how they feel and function in your hands.
The new design needed to be beautiful, but it also had to work hard. Packaging materials and formats were selected to remain compatible with the formulas inside them, help protect product stability and make each product easy and enjoyable to use at home.
That attention extends to details you may not immediately notice. Our serum droppers, for example, are designed to dispense a controlled dose. Squeezing the air from the pipette before placing it into the serum creates the vacuum needed to draw up the product correctly, helping you dispense the right amount without unnecessary waste.
Environmental responsibility was considered alongside appearance and function. The redesign reduced the size and number of packaging components used across the range and replaced a number of previously non-recyclable materials.
Most of our packaging can now be recycled through standard Australian kerbside programs, with Australasian Recycling Label instructions explaining what to do with each component once it’s empty.
